Australian School Based Apprenticeships (ASBA)

Australian School Based Apprenticeships (ASBAs) area great option for Yr 10, 11 and 12 students who wish to stay at school to complete their education and enter the workforce. ASBAs offer students a chance to learn both generic work skills and industry specific skills by working and training on the job while undertaking their VCE or VCAL studies. ASBAs keep young people's options open to many education and career pathways.

What is an Australian school-based Apprenticeship / Traineeship?

An ASBA is a Nationally Accredited Qualifications that are recognized throughout A ustralia done as part of your VCE or VCAL which combines accredited training and work experience.

How will it help my Career?

The experience you gain from your ASBA will be highly regarded by Employers. You will have an insight into the career path of your choice, putting you way ahead of your peers in the job marketplace and giving you essential training and experience before you even finish secondary school. A good percentage of students that complete an ASBA continue on into full time employment or gain credit for future study.

Why would I do an ASBA?

There are many fabulous reasons to do an ASBA. Firstly it's a part time job, which gives you an income while you are studying at school. It's also a way to gain valuable experience in a profession or trade, giving you great career prospects.

Who is eligible to undertake an ASBA?

You need to be:

A student over the age of 15 years
An Australian Citizen
A permanent Australian Resident
The holder of a permanent Australian visa or
The holder of a New Zealand passport who has been resident in Australia for at
least 6 months prior to commencing the program

How does an ASBA affect my schooling?

The student will have paid employment for 10 to 15 hours per week and attend school the remaining days.

How do I apply or get more information on ASBA?

All you need to do is apply for a school-based apprenticeship /traineeship with SSGT . There are no pre-requisites; however you must be doing the relevant subjects as part of your secondary school studies to accommodate the work and training days / time.
